Black Belt Promotions at Sayonara Party 2010

I was honored and privileged to make the following announcements in December of last year on behalf of the Senshi Do Association. It was a very difficult announcement to make due to the emotions involved with such an honour.

Unknown to these individuals at the time they were continually assessed on various aspects of their Martial Arts Career over the last year or so, and it is through their unique and individual contributions to Senshi Do that their extraordinary efforts were rewarded in the true Spirit of Karate and Senshi Do.

For some of you new to Karate you may not understand and appreciate what it means to be a black belt, but as Mas Oyama the founder of Kyukushin Karate Quoted “One becomes a beginner only after one thousand days of training and an expert after ten thousand days of practice." So it just emphasizes how much you have to put in to truly become an expert in our Martial art.

Throughout grades you make your body strong but more importantly in doing so you make your mind and spirit even stronger, you discover that the true strength is not just the body but a combination of technique, your mind and Spirit and it is only when you develop and appreciate this that you can truly call yourself a true black belt, and is especially so as you obtain your Dan Grades, again to quote from Mas Oyama:-

“Human beings are capable of virtually limitless degradation; they are also capable of virtually limitless improvement and achievement. Success depends on goals and on diligence in pursuing them” "Behind each triumph are new peaks to be conquered." And "Studying the martial Way is like climbing a cliff: keep going forward without rest”

I hope you can all draw from this its meanings, and if you can’t then don’t worry one day you too will be a black belt and start to understand.

So with this in mind a formal announcment was made:-

Sensei Ian Chalinder – On Behalf of the Senshi Do association was awarded his 4th Dan in recognition of your hard work determination and support of our style.

Sempai Pauline Evans –On Behalf of the Senshi Do association was awarded her 3rd Dan in recognition of your hard work determination and support of our style.

• And Last but not least Sempai Nicole Evans – On Behalf of the Senshi Do association was awarded her 2nd Dan in recognition of your hard work determination and support of our style.

It shows that with hard work determination and selfless commitment to help others that it does get recognized and rewarded, and all three have my utmost respect, and I look forward to working with them and you to make Senshi Do Wales the best association in Wales.

Congratulations and a big Osu! to your newly graded Black belt instructors!
